Module 1

Lesson 1

Theme 1. Social contacts of a business person: dealings with customers.

Goal: to be able to use the key vocabulary while reading and then discussing a situation; to get acquainted with the attutudes to customer care in different countries; to be able to write a formal letter.

Activities

Teaching hints

 

1. Read and listen to a short text; deduce the meanings of key words from the context (Students’ book, page 4, section Key Vocabulary).

2. Read the texts and answer the questions (Students’ book, pages 4 - 5, section Lead – in).

3.1. Work in pairs and discuss the five situations (Students’ book, page 5, section Cross–cultural comparison, exercise 1).

3.2. Listen to the recording. Which of the situations is a man describing?

(Students’ book, page 5, section Cross–cultural comparison, exercise 2).

4.1. Work is pairs. Read the lists and answer the question (Students’ book, page 9, section Writing, exercise 1).

4.2. Study the information on letter writing (Workbook, page 71).

4.3. Read the letter, then rewrite it using capital letters where it is necessary. (Students’ book, page 9, section Writing, exercise 2).

Home assignments

1. Exercise 1 (Work book, page 6, section Vocabulary).

2. Exercise Writing (Work book, page 8, section Writing).

Lesson 2

Theme 1. Social contacts of a business person: dealings with customers.

Goal: to demonstrate the ability of use capital letters; to be able to pronounce the verb do properly; to know how to form direct and inderect questions and to be able to use them properly.

 

Activities

1. Homework checking.

2. Language focus.

3. Pronunciation.

4. Language practice.

Teaching hints

1. Exercise 1 (Work book, page 6, section Vocabulary), questions where were used capital letters (Work book, page 8, section Writing).

2.1.Listen to the recording and answer the questions (Students’ book, page 6, section Language focus, exercise 1).

2.2. Listen again and indicate the questions you’ll hear (Students’ book, page 6, section Language focus, exercise 2).

2.3. Look at the direct and indirect questions and notice the differences between them (Students’ book, page 7, section Language focus, exercise 3).

2.4. Match the two parts of the questions. Compare with you partner’s answers. (Students’ book, page 8, section Language practice, exercise 1).

3. Listen to the recording and repeat the questions and answers (Students’ book, page 7, section Pronunciation, exercise 1).

3.1. Find the answers to the questions from the exercise 1 (Students’ book, page 8, section Language, exercise 2).

3.2. Listen and check your answers (Students’ book, page 8, section Language exercise 3).

3.3. Work in pairs. Make a role-play using given information (Students’ book, page 8, section Language, exercise 4).

5. Give some information about fitness club you attend, and its services.

Lesson 3

Theme 1. Social contacts of a business person: dealings with customers.

Goal:to demonstrate the ability of using the capital letters; to build vocabulary, to train listening for gist, to develop reading skills.

2.1. Read questions 1-4 and listen to the recording (Students’ book, page 10, section Listening, exercise 1)

2.2. Listen again and complete the summary (Students’ book, page 10, section Listening, exercise 2).

2.3. Find the opposites in the table to the words in exercise 1, question 2 (Students’ book, page 10, section Listenin, exercise 3).

3.1. Check information from Internet about Kwik-Fit company (Students’ book, page 11, section Reading, exercise 1,2).

3.1. Read the text “You can’t get better than a Kwik-Fit fitter!” (Students’ book, page 11, section Reading, exercise 2)

3.2. Find the information to complete the gaps (Students’ book, page 11 exercise, section Reading, exercise 1).

3.3. Read again and match the benefits (Students’ book, page 11,       section Reading, exercise 2).

4.1. Match the words to make word combinations from the text (Students’ book page 11, section Vocabulary exercise 1).

4.2. Complete the sentences using word combinations from exercise 1                     (Students’ book, page 11, section Vocabulary exercise 2).

5. Work in pairs. Think of Marks and Spenser company and discuss the attitude of the staff and the quality of the products or services (Students’ book, page 10, section Listening exercise 4).

Home assignment

1. Exercises 2, 3 (Work book, page 6, section Vocabulary).
