ЗАДАНИЯ

1.1. Найдите транскрипцию приведённых ниже слов в англо-русском словаре. Произнесите слова в соответствии с транскрипцией (см. Приложение1). Прослушайте слова (см. Введение.п.2). (Find a transcription of the following words in the English-Russian dictionary. Say the words according to the transcription (see Application1). Listen to the words (see Introduction. item2.)

ether - эфир

integrity - целостность

to determine - определять; обусловливать

determination of cost – определение стоимости, калькуляция

1.2. Найдите в тексте «LOCAL NETWORK ETHERNET» указанные в задании 1.1. слова. Запишите слова в контексте (см. Введение. п.1). (Find words pointed in the task 1.1. in the text «LOCAL NETWORK ETHERNET». Write down the words in a context (see Introduction. item1.)

LOCAL NETWORK ETHERNET

Connecting to the Internet was considered to be a difficult task even a few years ago. Nowadays this task has become much easier due to the introduction of Ethernet. As a result, for the time being, the local-area network is most often an Ethernet network.

Ethernet is a long-standing network standard. Now it became possible to connect large numbers of computers into a single network. Many institutions that are connected to the Internet use Ethernet for their internal connections and professional communications. An Ethernet connection is known to have a number of advantages. To them belongs, for example, increased communication speed. It may be equal to over ten megabits per second. The next advantage is integrity of data. During Ethernet operations data loss decreases considerably.

Basic Ethernet connections include the following two components: wiring and protocols. As for the wiring used, it may be thick, thin, or T-base. The type of Ethernet wiring chosen is of importance since it helps to determine the type of add-on Ethernet board that is needed for the microcomputer being used.

Understanding the basic components of Ethernet and their functions provides a better understanding of how the particular Ethernet system operates.

Network protocols are the software program that makes it possible for the user to communicate with various brands of computers over a local or wide-area network.
