Q. I meet all the application requirements listed in the GKS-G application guidelines. Does this mean that I am qualified to apply to all GKS partner universities?
A. Not really. The application requirements we have indicated in our GKS-G application guidelines are the minimum requirements to apply for our Global Korea Scholarship. However, some universities and departments may require a certain level of language proficiency, research experience and other qualifications. Therefore, we ask all prospective applicants to go through “University information” file posted with our application guidelines to check if they should meet further requirements. If the university requests supplementary document(s) beyond NIIED’s required documents such as portfolio, you should submit those materials directly to the university.
GKS-G 모집요강에 나온 기본 지원자격 요건을 모두 갖추었다면 모든 GKS 수학대학에 지원 가능합니까 ?
반드시 그렇지만은 않습니다. 모집요강에서 안내한 GKS 지원 자격요건은 GKS 장학프로그램에서 요구하는 최소한의 지원자격 요건입니다. 특정 대학이나 학과의 경우, 별도의 어학성적이나 연구실적 등 추가 자격을 요구하는 경우도 있으므로, 반드시 모집요강과 함께 게재된 “University Information” 파일을 통해 본인이 지원하고자 하는 대학과 학과의 지원 자격요건을 확인하신 후 지원하시기 바랍니다. 또한 국립국제교육원이 요구한 제출 서류 목록 외에, 지원하려는 대학에서 포트폴리오 등 추가 서류를 요구하는 경우에는 해당 자료들을 대학으로 별도 제출해 주시기 바랍니다.

Q. May I apply for the program by submitting my application to NIIED directly?
A. No, you may not. Applications must apply and submit their application documents to a Korean Embassy where they hold citizenship or directly to one of the partner universities. Since each embassy/university that conducts the first round of selection may have different application submission guidelines, please check with the embassy/university regarding any submission related inquiries such as application deadline, etc. Even if you are currently residing in Korea or in a different country and you are to apply via embassy track, you must submit your application documents to the Korean embassy in the country where you hold citizenship.
지원자가 국립국제교육원으로 직접 지원 서류를 제출하는 것이 가능합니까 ?
아닙니다. 지원서는 반드시 1차 선발 기관(국적 국가 소재의 한국대사관 혹은 지원 대학)으로 제출해야 합니다. 각 1차 선발기관마다 지원서류 제출방법에 대한 안내가 다를 수 있으므로, 지원서류 접수마감일 등을 포함한 지원서류 제출과 관련한 문의는 각 대사관/대학으로 해주시기 바랍니다. 현재 한국 거주 중이거나 본국이 아닌 타국에 거주하고 있는 지원자가 공관전형으로 지원하는 경우에도 반드시 본인이 국적을 소유하고 있는 국가에 소재한 한국대사관을 통해 지원하셔야 합니다.

Q. Can I just submit an original degree certificate and academic transcript?
A. The required certificates must be apostilled or confirmed by Consulate/Embassy. Notarized or original documents are not acceptable for the required certificates. (Exception: required certificate issued by Korean government or institutions should be submitted in their original version without additional authentication.)
아포스티유 / 영사확인 없이 학위증명과 성적증명서 원본을 제출할 수는 없나요 ?
필수 제출해야 하는 증명서류들은 반드시 아포스티유 혹은 영사/대사관 확인을 받아 제출해야 합니다. 필수제출 증명서들은 일반 공증본 혹은 원본 모두 인정하지 않습니다.
(예외: 한국 정부나 기관에서 발급한 증명서류들은 추가 공증 없이 원본 그대로 제출)

Q. I can only apostille on my original certificate which I cannot issue again in the future. Can I submit a photocopy of the apostilled document?
A. Please have your documents notarized and get a consular confirmation. Or, you may send us a certified true copy of your apostilled documents if you need to keep your original document. Please have the documents certified from the institution where you issued the apostille or from the Korean Consulate/Embassy.

Q. [Embassy track applicant] Should I apostille my birth certificate four times?
A. Embassy track applicants should submit ONE set of original application document (that includes apostilled/consular-confirmed documents) and THREE sets of photocopied application documents. This means embassy track applicants do not need to have their certificates authenticated four times.

Q. How should I submit translated document with apostille?
A. All application documents that are not written in Korean or English must be accompanied with a certified translation. If you can only get an apostille/consular-confirmation on your original document, then please submit it with a certified translation. The certified translation does not need to be apostilled/consular-confirmed.
번역공증본을 어떻게 아포스티유 받아 제출하나요 ?
한국어나 영어로 작성되지 않은 모든 서류들은 번역공증본과 함께 제출해야 합니다. 원어로 작성된 서류에만 아포스티유/영사확인이 가능하다면 해당 서류와 함께 번역 공증본을 추가로 제출해 주시기 바랍니다. 추가 제출하는 번역공증은 아포스티유/영사확인을 받지 않아도 됩니다.
Q. Must I submit the certificates of language proficiency (English or Korean) when I apply for GKS?
A. The certificate of English proficiency (TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS) or Korean proficiency (TOPIK) is optional, which means you may apply for GKS without it. However, if you are an applicant of a highly competitive country or if you are applying to a certain department, you may be required for a certain level of language proficiency.
공인 언어능력시험 증명서 ( 영어 , 한국어 ) 는 반드시 제출해야 합니까 ?
공인인증 영어능력시험 성적(TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS)과 한국어능력시험 성적(TOPIK)는 GKS 지원 시 필수제출 서류가 아니므로 언어능력시험 증명서 없이도 지원이 가능합니다. 다만, 경쟁률이 현저히 높은 국가의 한국대사관이나 특정 학과에서는 일정 수준 이상의 언어능력을 요구할 수 있습니다.
Q. I am planning to apply for 2022 GKS-G and I have already received a recommendation letter from my university’s professor in March 2021. Can I submit this recommendation letter?
A. The recommendation letter should be dated within a year from the very last date of the application deadline. Therefore, if your recommendation letter was issued more than a year from the 2022 GKS-G application submission deadline (set by each Korean embassy or university), you cannot submit that recommendation letter.
저는 2022 년 GKS-G 에 지원하고자 하는데 2021 년 3 월 미리 대학 교수님께 추천서를 받아 놓았습니다 . 해당 추천서를 제출해도 됩니까 ?
추천서는 지원서류 마감일자를 기준으로 1년 이내에 작성된 것이어야 합니다. 만약 해당 추천서가 각 대사관/대학이 공지한 2022년 GKS-G 1차 지원서류 제출마감일로부터 1년 이상 지났다면 제출하실 수 없습니다.
