Союзы в условных предложениях
В условных предложениях придаточная часть чаще всего соединяется с главной с помощью союзов if (если) и when (когда), но кроме них используются и другие союзы, например: unless (если… не), provided that, providing that, on condition that (при условии, что…)
Союз unless часто используется в разговорной речи.
I’ll be off work tomorrow unless someone gets sick. – У меня завтра выходной, если никто не заболеет.
We’ll have to call police unless you pay for the broken items. – Нам придется вызвать полицию, если только вы не заплатите за разбитые товары.
Союзы provided that, providing that, on condition that характерны для письменной речи. В устной речи «that» часто опускается.
We can deliver the engine on Monday provided (that) we receive your order within the next two days. – Мы можем доставить двигатель в понедельник при условии, что получим ваш заказ в течение ближайших двух дней.
Упражнение 1.
Составьте предложения, найдя соответствия между левой и правой колонками.
1. If I go on a diet a. we'll make a snowman
2. If it's sunny tomorrow b. I'll buy you some chocolate
3. If John doesn't hurry c. she'll have to take a taxi
4. If it snows d. I'll lose weight
5. If there are no buses e. he'll be late
6. If you are a good girl f. we'll go for a picnic
Упражнение 2.
Переведите на русский язык.
1. If the weather is bad tomorrow, I shall not go to the country.
2. If it is snowy at the weekend, we shall make a snowman.
3. If it rains on Saturday, they will not go to the cinema.
4. If the weather is fine, Kate will play in the park.
5. Children will swim in the river if it is sunny tomorrow.
6. If the river is frozen, people will skate.
7. If it is snowy and sunny, children will plаy snowballs.
