ЗАДАНИЯ

1.1. Найдите транскрипцию следующих слов в англо-русском словаре, если это необходимо. Проверьте произношение этих слов по транскрипции (см. Приложение1. Транскрипционные значки и их произношение) или прослушайте их (см. Введение . 2. Рекомендации по слушанию на английском языке ). (Find a transcription of the following words in the English-Russian dictionary if it is necessary. Check up a pronunciation of these words on a transcription (see Application1. Transcription symbols and their pronunciation) or listen to them (see Introduction.  2.Recommendations for the hearing in English.)

Questions to Ask / not Ask

What key areas are interviews designed to assess? Professionalism, interest in the job being offered, first for the job including applicable skills and personality.
How should you be dressed? It is always better to wear a suit.
What is not advised to wear for women? Large jewelry, loud colours, too much make up.
How to answer the question “Tell me about yourself”? Do not to tell your life story, but give a summary of your career abilities and goals.
How to tell about your greatest weakness? Avoid personality or character flaws. Focus on errors that could be improved upon over time.
What are some important things to remember? Greet your interviewer. Do not wear too much perfume. Bring a copy of your CV. Ask for your interviewer’s business card. Turn off your cell phone.
Why do employers ask the question “ Tell me about yourself”? They want to know what makes you special, why they should hire you.
What can you tell when you are asked about your greatest strength? Education, experiences and skills, talk about character traits.
How to answer about your greatest weakness? Be honest and realistic.
Why are you interested in working here? Show passion, interest and dedication and prove that your skills are suited to job.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Tell about your best skills, list 3 strengths.
Why should we hire you? Show your dedication to work at that place and not to leave it after a year.
What are your hobbies? Show multiple interests. Don’t focus only on the job.
What you thought you would be asked, but you were not? Show your accomplishments, smth you are proud of.
Do you have any questions for us? Prepare 5 questions. Ask about responsibilities. Do not ask about vacation.

Secrets to a Job Interview

Show your passion. Be energetic.

Tell things that will impress the interviewer. Keep it under 60 seconds.

Give examples – tell true stories to prove how good you are. Tell about the problem you faced – how you approached it and positive resolution.

Make your answers to hard questions short. Longer answers to easy questions.

Ask interviewer smart questions: “Do you think I could do this job well?” It gives you a chance to respond to objections.

Mistakes to Avoid

Don’t smoke.

Never criticize your previous employer or colleagues.

Avoid talking about your personal or domestic matters.

Never argue with an interviewer.

Always wait until you have a job offer before discussing your salary expectations.

Questions in Job Interviews

What is not advisable to ask? Avoid asking about salary, benefits. Never ask: “When do I start?”
What are excellent questions to ask the interviewer? When do you hope to have this postion filled? What happened to the person who held the position before me? What are the next steps in the process? What are you looking for? (and then tell how you meet all those criteria).
