Russian Railways
This -stock company Russian joint was registered in 1991. Petersburg, the production of special high-speed rolling stock and the manufacture of electric trains for local services. The establishers of the company were the Russian Federal Government, the city governments of Moscow and St. Petersburg and the Oktyabrskaya Railway. From its very beginning, it was planned to finance the operations of this project exclusively by means of various types of share capital.

This railway is the oldest railway in Russia. Its history began in 1837 with the construction of the St. Petersburg – TsarskoeSelo line. In 1851 the “chugunka” (iron road) connected two Russian capitals. Later the railroad network covered the entire North – Western region of the country and became the most important means of transport ther.
The Oktyabrskaya Railway extends through the territory of the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, through those of Moscow, Tver, Pskov, Novgorod, Murmansk, Vologda, Yaroslavl regions, as well as through the Republic of Karelia. It has a total length of about 10 200 kilometres; of these, about 60 percent with an autoblock system, over one third has electrified lines and more than one forth has two or three track lines.

Today it is very easy to travel from one place to another. But for many years people were travelling in horse-drawn vehicles. The Museum of British Transport in London tells the story of transport in Britain. In 1829 Shillibear started the first bus service in London. This bus was different of today. It was drawn by three horses. In 1885 the first buses with petrol-engines appeared in London. The first trains like first buses were horse-drawn. But they were not passenger trains. They carry materials from one place to another in mines.
The first passenger railway in England was the railway from Liverpool to Manchester. The best steam locomotive of that time was the “Rocket” by Stephens. Its speed was 29 miles per hour. Many people were afraid of the railways when they first appeared.
